The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a small country on the east bank of the Jordan River with few natural resources. Jordan is defined by ancient monuments, nature reserves and seaside resorts, and is home to the infamous archaeological site of Petra, the Nabatean capital dating to around 300 B.C. Set in a narrow valley with tombs, temples and monuments carved into the surrounding pink sandstone cliffs, Petra earns its nickname, the "Rose City".

Jordan sits strategically at the crossroads of the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. The tourism sector is considered a cornerstone of the economy, being a large source of employment and economic growth.
